COLOR SIMULATION

The upper left photo is my house with cedar shake.   The other three photos are generated by the Certain Teed website assuming their high end Belmont product. Even the "weathered wood" is considerably darker than the cedar.  Likely all synthetic materials will have a greater color saturation and appear heavier than cedar.  Because of this all colors are probably not going to be as flexible and harmonious with all exteriors as the cedar is.  So we could (a) allow more than one color choice, or (b) choose one which will help drive siding color choices down a narrower path to match the roof.  Given the choices we have seen people make in the past, I prefer (b).

It could be 20 years before all the roofs are replaced.  The neighborhood will remain more harmonious if we choose a replacement material that is close to the medium gray color and texture of the existing roots.

Should we mandate product? Useful life is 25 years, but if insurance won't cover > 10 years is it reasonable or wise to pay for 25?
